Your academic standing is SUSPENSION if you were previously on probation and your cumulative GPA currently stands at less than a 2.0. If this applies to you, you will receive a letter from the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs. Suspended students are not allowed to return to Stony Brook until successfully petitioning for academic reinstatement.
If your failure to satisfy minimum academic standards reflects an error in grade reporting or unreported grades, you must arrange to have your instructor submit written evidence on department letterhead that these problems have been corrected. This information may be submitted to the Executive Officer for the Committee on Academic Standing and Appeals (CASA), Undergraduate Academic Affairs, E3310 Melville Library, Stony Brook, NY 11794-3351, no later than 5 p.m. on July 7, 2008.
If you have earned at least a 2.0 grade point average and 9 credits during the Spring 2008 semester, you are eligible to petition for reinstatement to return this Fall. To do so, please contact the Academic and Pre-Professional Advising Center at (631) 632-7082, option 2, to schedule an appointment to meet with an academic advisor and obtain a petition and instructions for completion. All first petitions must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. July, 7, 2008, for consideration for Fall admission. Students whose first petitions are denied may appeal the decision by submitting a second/appeals petition with new documentation no later than 5 p.m. July, 14, 2008. Please note that submitting a petition with documentation does not guarantee readmission for the Fall 2008 semester.
If you are not eligible to petition for immediate reinstatement, you should considering attending another institution for at least one semester, earning 12 credits in related coursework with at least a 3.0 grade point average. To discuss this further and consider other options, please call the Academic and Pre-Professional Advising Center at (631) 632-7082, option 2, to set up an appointment with an academic advisor. To learn more about local colleges that accept suspended students for Fall enrollment, please click here.
Suspended students will be deregistered from their Fall 2008 courses and have their campus housing room assignments cancelled on August 15, 2008.
