Previous Seed Grant Winners
Where are they now?
In 2001, Pelagia Gouma of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering was awarded a seed grant for her proposal, "High-Resolution Characterization of the Effect of C and Si Additions in TiAl-Based Structural Alloys."
Since then, the funded work resulted in a Ph.D. thesis by Mallikarjun Karadge, “Transmission Electron Microscopy Studies on HCP to FCT + Precipitate Transformations in Lamellar ?-TiAl Alloys”, The Ph.D. degree was awarded to him in August 2004. Mallikarjun currently is employed as a Research Scientist by UMIST (UK) working on a Rolls Royce-funded program.
The
work also resulted in several publications and invited talks, such as:
M. Karadge and
P.I. Gouma, “A structural aspect of ?(?2) -> lamellar ?2+??transformation
in ?-TiAl”, Phil. Mag. Lett., 84 (7), pp. 451-459, 2004.
