Young-Sun Hong is Associate Professor in the Department of History. Born in South Korea, she holds a B.A. in History from Yonsei University in Seoul and a Ph.D. in modern German and European History from the University of Michigan. She is currently completing a book entitled The Third World in Two Germanys: Race, Health, and Transnational Identity 1945-1975. This project is a comparative, postcolonial study of West and East German encounters with the "Third World" in the era of decolonization and the Cold War. She also has another ongoing project, which focuses on sexual economies of global modernity with a particular emphasis on Korea, the Philippines, and Thailand. Since 1998 she has been working as book review editor for Social History.
