Adult Literacy Center Workshop Information
The Adult Literacy Center at Stony Brook University is in need of volunteers to help individuals within our community learn to read and write and/or speak conversational English. Tutor training workshops prepare volunteers to help adults improve their ability to understand, speak, read and write basic English.
To register for a tutor training workshop, you need to:
- Download and complete a Tutor Registration Form
- Download and complete a Tutor Application Form
- Remit a $25.00 non-refundable registration fee (this is for your text book and reference book.
- Make checks payable to Literacy Suffolk, Inc. or include credit card information.

Attendance at all sessions of the workshop is required. Tutor training workshops are held in the Administration Building on the West Campus. After successfully completing a workshop, trained tutors are matched with learners on the Stony Brook campus. Each volunteer is asked to tutor 2-3 hours a week, for at least one year.
The workshop schedule is as follows:
