» Appeal a Parking Ticket

The University Police enforces parking rules with the following in mind:

  • Life safety infractions such as fire lanes, handicapped spaces, and maintaining access are paramount.
  • Protection of permit holder parking privileges must be provided.
  • To maintain order and equity, so that our campus is accessible.

Fines for specific violations are shown in the table below. A $5.00 late fee is assessed on the 15th day after the date of issuance on tickets that are unpaid and not under appeal. Beginning November 1, 2007, the late fee will be increased from $5.00 to $10.00.

* Beginning November 1, 2007, in accordance with SUNY Rules and Regulations, a new schedule of parking fines will be in effect on-campus. The goal of the increase is to ensure compliance, thereby improving traffic flow and making more space available for legal permit holders.

Parking Ticket Payment

Currently, we do not accept online payments. You may use the Stony Brook Parking Ticket Appeals System to list any outstanding tickets that you may have.

Payments may be made in person at the Bursar's Office, 2nd floor Administration Building, on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 08:30AM to 04:00PM and on Tuesday from 10:00AM to 06:00PM when classes are in session. You may also mail payments to the following address:

Checks should be made out to "Stony Brook University Acct. No. 900819." Please include the ticket number(s) on the check.

Under authority pursuant to Section 360 of the Education Law and Regulations published under Part 584 et seq., of the Official Compilation of Codes, Rules, and Regulations of the State of New York, the failure of a student to pay any fines due will prevent release of transcripts, diplomas, or certificates of completion; reinstatement or other sanctions. In the case of University employees, failure to pay will result in the deduction of such fines from wages or salary due. Failure of a visitor to pay any fines due will result in proceedings under Law. Failure to resolve outstanding tickets may also result in revocation of parking privileges, as well as the placement of enrollment holds on your record. Delinquent tickets may be transferred to the New York State Attorney General's Office or a private agency for collection.

If full payment or an appeal is not submitted within 14 calendar days following the date of issuance, this will be considered an admission of liability. Your vehicle will be subject to immobilization or impoundment.
