A New Kind of Center
The Stony Brook University Center for Wine, Food, and Culture strives to support the
economic and cultural viability of regional wine and food producers through
dynamic and relevant educational activities that are open to industry professionals
and the general public.
On Long Island and throughout New York, our agricultural traditions are
currently at risk, as farms and fisheries suffer from the pressures of
population growth, global environmental changes, and government regulation.
Suffolk County currently has the most economically importantagriculture
industry in the state. Our cultural heritage and public security also depend
on the sustainability of food production in the New York Metropolitan Area,
which includes the Twin Forks. The community must be made aware of the
importance and of the fragility of our farms in order to create conditions
that will make them viable and sustainable.
To this end, the Center for Wine, Food, and Culture offers wine-and
food-tasting classes, cultural lectures, exhibitions, interdisciplinary
symposia, and academic programs. Consumers, students, researchers, and
professionals are offered richly diverse experiences to enhance their
knowledge, sensory awareness, health, and conviviality.
Monthly Food & Wine Pairing Recipes
Each month we will feature a fun and easy recipe complemented by appropriate wines.
