Academic Advisement

SPD students receive advisement either by telephone or in person appointments (e-mail advisement is also available). To schedule a telephone advisement appointment, call 631.632.7050, option 3. Telephone appointments are generally available morning and/or afternoon, Monday through Thursday.

To receive advisement by e-mail, be sure to include your full name and Stony Brook ID number in the subject and/or body of the e-mail, in addition to specifically stating your advisement questions. You may e-mail spd@stonybrook.edu and expect to receive a response within two business days. (Note: The SPD office is closed Saturday and Sunday.) Although you may schedule appointments with SPD advisors as often or as seldom as you wish throughout your program of study, new and continuing students are individually responsible for meeting program requirements.

Personal Contact Information
Because communication with SPD, faculty, and various Stony Brook University offices may take place at a distance (e-mail), your contact information must be kept up-to-date. Students are required to notify the SPD office of any address, telephone, e-mail, or name change (two forms of supporting identification are required for a name change; one must be picture ID, such as a driver's license), to avoid undue delay in receiving University correspondence, and other important material from SPD and/or the University.

Students may submit a change notification to the SPD office via e-mail or fax, or update the information directly on the SOLAR System.

Be sure that all of your correspondence contains your full name and Stony Brook ID number.
