Academic Advisement

SPD students receive advisement either by telephone or by email (in person appointments are available if necessary for local students). To schedule a telephone advisement appointment, call 631.632.7050, option 3. Telephone appointments are available at a variety of times from Monday-Thursday.

To receive advisement by email, be sure to include your full name and Stony Brook ID number in the subject and/or body of the email, in addition to specifically stating your advisement questions. You can email spd@stonybrook.edu and expect to receive a response within two business days (Note: The SPD office is closed Saturday and Sunday). Although you may schedule appointments with SPD advisors as often or as seldom as you wish throughout your program of study, you are individually responsible for meeting program requirements.

Contact Information
Because many of your interactions with Stony Brook faculty and staff take place at a distance, your contact information must be kept up-to-date. Students are required to notify SPD of any address, telephone, e-mail, or name changes so that they will continue to receive registration information, grade reports, and other important correspondence from the University.

You can update an address yourself by using the SOLAR System. If you update your e-mail address or if you need to process a name change, please contact us at spd@stonybrook.edu for instructions.

You are also responsible for making sure your e-mail address is listed correctly in Blackboard. Instructions for changing your e-mail address can be found in the SPD Online Resource Center (accessible in Blackboard).

Be sure that all of your correspondence contains your full name and student ID number.
